Board of Trade President Michael Heseltine has been accused of 'slow progress' on sorting out the issues surrounding a Brussels metrication directive, reports The Guardian (p2).

Welsh secretary John Redwood warns him of 'justifiable complaints' from local government and business because of Whitehall inaction over the directive which started to come into force on January 1.

'I am wary about my officials now circulating local authorities with guidance on the implications of the directive,' Mr Redwood said in a letter to Mr Heseltine, the paper reports.
