Two new councillors have been voted onto Clackmannanshire Council following by-elections yesterday.

SNP candidate Janis Paterson won in Menstrie, Ward 1, with 403 votes, a majority of 265 over the Labour candidate Haldis Scott (138 votes). The turnout (percentage poll) was 42.4%.

The Conservative candidate Richard Sullivan received 108 votes, Charles Gillon (Scottish Socialist), 37 votes and Liberal Democrat Charles Bell, 31 votes.

The by-election followed the resignation of former Independent councillor Joe Kazemi.

Tillicoultry's new councillor is the SNP's Helen McGregor who received 262 votes, giving her a majority of 86 over the Labour candidate Joanne Ross (176 votes). The turnout (percentage poll) was 39.8%.

William Whyte (no party) received 128 votes, Liberal Democrat John Biggam, 86 votes and Conservative Alan Jamieson, 59 votes in Ward 4.

The by-election followed the resignation of SNP councillor Charles Forbes.
