Plans for a nationwide strategy to combat child prostitution in the UK and abroad have been unveiled by the government, reports The Birmingham Post (p3).

Home office minister Alun Michael said new guidance issued to police forces would mean that children involved in prostitution would be treated as victims of abuse instead of offenders.

The move follows a 12-month pilot scheme in Wolverhampton by West Midlands Police and Wolverhampton MBC.

Mr Michael said links between courts, social services, schools and health services would be improved to combat the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
