A band of 33 cross-party women MPs are ganging up on the government to demand more ladies' lavatories, reported the Sunday People (p12). They want local authorities to provide more public toilets and they want the government to back up the demand with legislation.

Their commons motion quotes international research which shows that women need twice as many loos as men because they have to go more often. Councils now have only discretionary powers to provide public conveniences - and many have been closed in recent years because of cost or vandalism.
