One of the Local Government Association's senior directors is seeking election to the council of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy.

Sarah Wood, director of economic and environmental policy at the LGA, will compete with 41 nominees for the 21 places when the ballot closes on 6 May.

If she succeeds, she will be the first LGA officer to sit on the CIPFA council, heralding a new link between the two organisations.

'I've been tempted before but not sure I could devote enough time to it,' she said. 'CIPFA has been good to me as a member and I would hope to be able to put something back.'

The new council membership will be announced on 13 May.
