WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR JOB?

I'm responsible for ensuring departments can play their part in any major emergency.

ANY MAJOR INCIDENTS?

We were closely involved with the Watford, Hatfield and Potters Bar rail disasters. We've had to deal with flooding and gas explosions.

YOUR BACKGROUND?

I graduated in international relations and worked in Switzerland. I also have an

MSc in international marketing.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT?

I started in 1992. I chair a number of groups such as the council group of the Hertfordshire emergency services major incident committee.

PERSONALLY?

My wife is French and a teacher and we have a daughter of two. I'm keen on sport and play squash.

THE FUTURE?

I like to set my sights high, but my philosophy is to have a balanced life.
