WHAT IS YOUR JOB ABOUT?

I'm responsible for refuse collection, street cleansing, grounds and highways maintenance. I'm also responsible for statutory undertakings, such as maintaining a safe highway.

YOUR TEAM?

My team of 30 staff includes eight specially trained inspectors qualified to inspect environmental cleansing, highway and highway reinstatement across the board. We also have engineering technicians, a horticulturalist and an arboriculturalist.

YOUR CAREER?

I began with Mid Glamorgan CC as a highways design technician and became highway inspector. On Welsh local government reorganisation in 1996 I joined Caerphilly CBC as a highway inspector, then became assistant engineer. I came here as team leader in 1999.

QUALIFICATIONS?

I've got ONC and HNC certificates and a BSc (Hons), all in civil engineering, and a diploma in management. I studied for all of them part time while I was working.

PERSONALLY?

My husband is an electronic engineer in local government. We married 11 years ago on a beach in Jamaica and like travelling, especially to the Greek islands.

THE FUTURE?

I'd like to get to the next level as assistant director, and to stay in local government.

It's ever changing and we're serving the community and that's what I like.
