ARE YOU MORE MARKETING OR COMMUNICATIONS?

I am in both roles. I promote the council's services and achievements to the community and market Northumberland as a visitor destination and to potential business investors.

WHAT ABOUT COMMUNICATIONS?

I have set up an internal communications and consultation group with departmental representatives, to develop more consistent communications and accessibility, and engage the community better.

WHERE WERE YOU BEFORE?

Last year I marketed the launch of the International Centre for Life in Newcastle upon Tyne - a£60m Millennium Commission project.

DID YOU FIND TIME TO STUDY?

Part-time - I am a chartered marketer and have an MA in marketing.

WHAT DREW YOU SO STRONGLY TO MARKETING?

My interest began when I joined Sunderland in 1986 in economic development, when there was severe unemployment and it had

to become better at selling itself.

ARE YOU ON ANY GROUPS?

I am chair of the Northumberland County Communications Group, and a cross boundary communications group with North Tyneside Council.

PERSONALLY?

I am married. We

enjoy travelling and went to Dubai and Thailand this year. I love football and have a season ticket to Sunderland FC.

AND THE FUTURE?

I want to do well here in promoting Northumberland before I start thinking about what to do next.
