Wrexham CBC is to overhaul its social services in response to allegations of child abuse in council-run homes, reports The Western Mail (p11).

A judicial inquiry into the alleged abuse, some of the cases go back to the 1970s, will soon start, but Wrexham has chosen to act now.

The council will change management structures in its social services department, and also the way in which staff are able to provide care for the local community, says The Western Mail.

Andrew Figiel, Wrexham's chief social services officer, said: 'The proposals are based on the assumption that services are best provided at as local a level as possible.

'Most services will be grouped together within three locality areas, and at the same time there will be a streamlining of the management to enable the lowest management costs in Wales or England.'
