Six Yorkshire towns will be the first to be chosen for a Countryside Agency pilot scheme to revitalise rural communities which will see them receiving aid packages worth more than£1m each, reports The Yorkshire Post (p1).

It is planned that another 12 towns in the region will eventually join the project which, depending on its success, would be a blueprint for the rest of England.

The initial list is still being finalised, and is due to be announced early next month. The scheme has the backing of the regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.
